How Your Skin Ages Throughout The Decades

Every year, our skin succumbs to the pitfalls of aging. From our teens all the way until we’re in our golden years, our skin continues to lose its elasticity. The older we get, the more we need procedures like a non-surgical face lift and chemical peels to restore our skin and combat the signs of aging.

Aging Skin

Here’s how we age throughout the decades:

Teens: Acneic yet youthful

In your teens, your skin is chock full of collagen and very elastic. Your skin appears youthful and smooth even though you may be plagued with breakouts. Acne is very common among teenagers. However, teenage skin is plump and radiant even during a breakout.

Twenties: When bad habits turn into bad skin

When we hit our twenties, our skin begins to incur damage. But because our skin is still rich in collagen and elasticity, it is very easy for it to bounce back. Generally, the damage our skin undergoes when we’re in our twenties is self-inflicted from alcohol consumption, smoking, lack of sleep and forgetting to wear sunscreen. Acne is still common for people in their twenties, though it may not be as bad as it was when you were a teenager.

Thirties: Damage control

The damage we do in our twenties begins to show when we reach our thirties. Our skin is less smooth and we lose elasticity. Moreover, our thirties are when our skin tone starts to become uneven and fine lines can start to form around the eyes. The sun damage we accrued in our twenties will come back to haunt us in the form of brown spots. Many people turn to Botox to lift the skin and treat fine lines, and chemical peels to lighten spots.

Forties: Mature skin makes its appearance

Uneven skin tone and excessive dryness are very common for people in their forties. Plus, sagging, wrinkles and fine lines become more apparent. Our forties bring a lack of collagen production and hyperpigmentation, and our skin starts to look dull. At this age, people try a procedure like a non-surgical face lift to restore the skin, get rid of any sagginess and promote collagen production.

Fifties +: When your skin needs a boost

At this age, gravity takes its toll, and the fat pads in our skin and the underlying bone recedes, which changes our supporting facial structures, giving us sunken cheeks and in some cases jowls or “turkey neck.” Our pores can also enlarge at this point, and visible blood vessels and spider veins may appear on our skin. However, invasive (face lift surgery) and non-invasive surgical (non-surgical face lift) procedures have proven to restore elasticity and rejuvenate the skin while helping with collagen production.

Each decade brings more wrinkles and sun damage, but there is hope. Please contact us for more information about our anti-aging procedures, like the non-surgical face lift. We’ll make sure your age, no matter how old you are, doesn’t show on your face.
