Five Tips For Faster Recovery After An Arm Lift Procedure

The recovery period after an arm lift procedure involves getting plenty of rest and caring for your arms. You will experience some discomfort, swelling and bruising but that is your body’s natural way of healing itself. There are certain things you can do that won’t impede your body’s natural healing process and speed up your recovery from an arm lift.

Tips For Faster Recovery After An Arm Lift Procedure

Try these five tips for faster rehabilitation:

  1. Rest

This is one of the most important things you can do immediately following your arm lift procedure. Do not attempt any heavy lifting or physical activity in the week after your arm lift. You will have trouble lifting your arms anyway, so this shouldn’t be a problem. Get as much sleep as possible after your surgery to speed up the recovery process. If you exert yourself and don’t get ample rest you will actually delay the healing process.

  2. Clean and dress your wounds

Infections will only occur if you don’t take care of your wounds. During your arm lift, your surgeon will make incisions that will be closed with sutures (probably disposable). Your post-surgery job is to keep your wound area clean and dressed to prevent infections. Your surgeon will wrap the area in special bandages that you will need to wear and clean for the first week after your procedure. By keeping your bandages and wound area protected and clean, you are helping to speed up the healing process.

  3. Wear compression garments

These are special garments that compress your arms to minimize swelling and improve blood flow. Compression garments must be worn because without proper blood circulation you aren’t giving your body a chance to heal the way it wants to. There are compression garments that don’t show under clothing, allowing you to wear them discreetly.

  4. Reduce scarring properly

The incision area from an arm lift will leave a scar. Although scars will fade over time, you can get rid of them faster. There are many creams and gels on the market that claim to reduce scarring. After your arm lift, you can speed up the healing process by using scar reduction products. However, do not use anything that your surgeon doesn’t approve of.

  5. Don’t mix medications

Your surgeon will prescribe painkillers to help you handle the post-surgery discomfort. They may also prescribe antibiotics. Only take medications that your doctor has prescribed. If you are taking any medications before your surgery, your surgeon will let you know if you need to stop taking them as you heal and when they can be resumed.

After any surgical procedure it is important to follow the instructions of your doctor. Deviating from their guidance can hinder the healing process.
