The day of your surgery

Whoever picks you up after your surgery should ideally stay with you for a couple of hours afterwards to make sure you’re set up on the couch or your bed. If you have young children, arrange childcare for the day of your cosmetic breast augmentation. The best thing you can do for the 24 hours following your surgery is rest. Take your pain medication as prescribed and sleep as much as you can.

The week after your surgery

The day after surgery, you should be able to shower but you may not be able to wash your hair. Your arms and chest will be very sore and lifting your arms may prove taxing. You may still need to stay home and rest and avoid strenuous activity. You can go for a light walk around the block but do not run or lift weights.

One week post-surgery

Some people are able to return to work after a week while others take more time to recoup. If your job does not require heavy lifting, bending or major movements, then your surgeon may clear you to return to work. It also depends on how you are feeling. If you still need prescription pain medication to deal with the discomfort from your cosmetic breast augmentation, going back to work after a week is not a good idea. Continue going for light walks to stimulate blood flow and boost your circulation.

Two weeks following surgery

At this point, many people are able to resume their everyday activities like working. But, you cannot do any strenuous activities yet. Going to the gym, lifting weights, yoga or any other intense physical activity will have to wait until the six week mark.

Six weeks after your procedure

After about six weeks your surgeon will probably clear you to resume your pre-surgery exercise regime. If you have small children you should be able to pick them up if you do it carefully with your elbows close to your sides. At this point in time, you will really notice the results of your procedure like new chest contours and fuller breasts.

It’s important to listen to your body while you recover from cosmetic breast augmentation surgery. If something doesn’t feel right, contact your surgeon immediately.
