Inverted NipplesCondition: Inverted nipples are a normal variant, but may be regarded by clients as undesirable. They are often caused by shortening of the ducts that connect the nipple to the underlying breast. Sometimes pregnancy and breast feeding may solve the problem. Procedure: A procedure performed under local anaesthetic (freezing) may be all that is required to correct or improve nipple inversion by releasing the tethered ducts. Consequences: The small incision produces a scar that is usually very acceptable. Since the ducts are no longer connected to the breast, breast feeding is not possible. Risk: With any surgery there are risks of infection, bleeding, numbness, poor healing and undesirable scars. With nipple inversion surgery there is also a risk of recurrence of the problem. SURGICAL
