6 Things To Look For During Your Cosmetic Consultation

When you go for your cosmetic consultation, it’s important that you know what to look for. You will probably be visiting many plastic surgeons before you settle on the one that you feel the most comfortable with. To help you get the most out of your cosmetic consultation, here are six things you need to look for.

Things To Look For During Your Cosmetic Consultation

    1. CredentialsTo work as a plastic surgeon in Ontario, you are required to complete at least five years of training once you have graduated from medical school. Furthermore, you must pass an exam that is administered by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada before you are granted the certification needed to be able to perform cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries. During your consultation, ask the surgeon where they went to school, where they did their training and what certifications they have.
    2. ExperienceYou need to know how many procedures the surgeon has performed. You should ask about the staff’s experience as well, and find out where the nurses trained and how many procedures they’ve assisted on. The same goes for the anesthesiologist that will be administering the anesthesia prior to your surgery.
    3. HonestyIf your surgeon tells you that you will look exactly like Kim Kardashian following your procedure, they aren’t the surgeon for you. A great plastic surgeon will be honest with you during your cosmetic consultation and tell you that you’ll look like the best version of yourself following your procedure, and not your favourite celebrity. They’ll also explain exactly what the procedure entails, the benefits of having the surgery and how it will help build your self-confidence.
    4. ComfortDoes the surgeon make you feel comfortable during your consultation? What about the clinic itself? Is it clean? Were the staff nice to you when you signed in at reception? These are questions you need to ask yourself post-consultation.
    5. RecoveryThe recovery process after surgery varies depending on the type of procedure you have done. During your cosmetic consultation ask for a detailed breakdown of the recovery process.
    6. Cost

You need to know the exact cost of your surgery, whether there’s financing packages available, and whether your procedure is covered by your insurance. For example, breast reductions could be covered by OHIP because they may be a medical necessity if you are having back problems.
