Most Common Plastic Surgery Procedures for Men

Generally, plastic surgery for cosmetic enhancement is often associated with women due to its feminine connotation. While it is in fact true that women undertake most of the procedures on a yearly basis, there is a growing number of men who choose to enhance their appearances cosmetically. The increasing acceptance of these procedures indicate that many men are shifting attitudes and are embracing cosmetic enhancements and plastic surgery as the norm.

Plastic Surgery Procedures for Men

Here are the most common plastic surgery procedures completed at McLean Clinic for men.

1. Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is one of the most common cosmetic procedures requested by men. It makes the eyes appear more youthful and tightened due to the removal of excess sagging skin around the eyes. The upper lids will appear more defined and the lines below the lids will be eliminated. Additionally, many patients experience an improvement in peripheral vision after the surgery because the procedure removes excess skin on the upper eyelid.

2. Botox and Fillers

These cosmetic injections are quick, painless, and provide almost instant results, making them an extremely popular enhancement procedure that men undergo. They work to temporarily eliminate signs of aging by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Both men and women love Botox because it is relatively inexpensive and has little to no downtime as opposed to other surgical procedures. There are many options when it comes to injectable fillers, such as Restylane and Juvéderm, which are hyaluronic acid based fillers. They with Botox can be used to remove crow’s feet by the eyes and frown lines by the mouth, in the under eyes, and in any areas with deep wrinkles or creases. Fillers can also be used to effectively treat deep pitted acne scars.

      3. Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty can help boost the confidence of men by re-shaping or eliminating bumps on the nose to improve its overall appearance. Although rhinoplasty can be used for cosmetic purposes, many seek to undergo this procedure if they have breathing problems or a broken nose because of a deviated septum. The shape of the nose will be altered by working from the bone and cartilage, and incisions will not be visible as they are usually well-hidden on the inside of the nose. This procedure will help make the nose more balanced with the rest of their facial features and provides men with greater self-esteem and confidence.

4. Liposuction

Another popular plastic surgery option among men is liposuction. The liposuction procedure involves the removal of stubborn fat cells in localized areas of the body through incisions that help reshape and contour these areas. The most common areas treated by this technique are the abdomen, arms, back, and chest. Liposuction is a fairly non-invasive procedure because the incisions are so tiny, resulting in minimal downtime where patients are expected to be able to return to work in less than a week.

5. Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia Surgery)

Gynecomastia is a hormonal condition as the result of a hormonal imbalance in the body, which results in large, female appearing breasts in men. It is not to be confused with large breasts that have formed due to substantial weight gain because no amount of dieting or exercise will address this issue. Male breast reduction surgery will re-contour and flatten the chest by removing male breast tissue, which will help restore a more masculine shape to the chest area. Many patients are able to return to work within a week and can be expected to fully recover within 2 to 3 weeks.
