How To Get Rid Of Bags Under Your Eyes

Under-eye bags can plague men and women of all ages. Some people are lucky enough to only develop dark circles under their eyes when they hit their golden years. For others they can make an appearance as early as their twenties. There are ways to get rid of bags under your eyes that range from cosmetic eyelid surgery to visiting an allergist.

Getting Rid Of Eye Bags

The bags under our eyes have many causes, one of which is allergies. You can see an allergist to find out if allergens like air pollutants, animal dander, pollen or other factors are the culprit behind your under-eye bags. You can also take an antihistamine to see if that helps reduce the swelling and puffiness under your eyes.

Cosmetic eyelid surgery

This is a specific type of surgery that involves creating smoother contours under the eyes. The area where bags appear will be lifted to give you a more youthful appearance. Cosmetic eyelid surgery can also be performed on the top lids if you suffer from hooding (when the upper eyelids sag, making it look like your eyes are covered). Cosmetic eyelid surgery must be performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon. The recovery time following this procedure is minimal and you’ll be left looking refreshed.

Sleep well

If you can sleep at least eight hours per night (or close to it), you’ll notice a change in the bags under your eyes. They may not disappear completely, but they will diminish and look less apparent. Furthermore, if you can avoid consuming alcohol before bed, you’ll also be helping to reduce under-eye bags. Alcohol can lead to water retention and make our faces, especially the area under our eyes, look puffier.

Leave the salt

Sodium, like alcohol, leads to water retention. The more water we retain, the puffier the area under our eyes will look. We need some sodium in our diet, but you should avoid adding extra salt to your food. In addition, stay away from fast food and processed foods because they are very high in salt.

Stop smoking

Tobacco products damage the skin around our eyes, leaving us with dark circles. Smoking can also dry out our skin and make our eyes look less bright than they actually are. Besides getting rid of under-eye bags, quitting smoking reduces your risk of cancer and restores your skin.
