Exercising After Liposuction: Everything You Need To Know

During liposuction, fat cells are removed permanently from the area being treated. This means that there are fewer fat cells there and regrowth will not occur. However, fat cells in other parts of the body may take it upon themselves to overcompensate. Because of this, exercise after liposuction is extremely important. But, don’t rush to the gym right after your liposuction procedure.

Exercising After Liposuction: Everything You Need To Know

Here’s everything you need to know about exercising after liposuction:

25% Is Fine At First

In the days following your procedure, you should move around. It’s recommend that you only exercise at 25 per cent of what you normally would. Stick to mild activities like walking slowly on a treadmill. If you don’t have access to a treadmill, try walking around your house or even around the block if you feel up to it. When you’re keeping exercise at a minimum, you’re not hindering your body’s natural healing process. Additionally, mild exercise like walking helps keep blood clots away.

Keep It light Until You’re Ready For The Big Time

Stick with walking in the days following surgery and only return to your full workout routine within two to four weeks. Everyone’s body is different, so listen to what it wants. Start slow by running for a few minutes and see what your body can handle. If you’re not ready to run, try aerobics, but stop if you get tired. Don’t push yourself and start with high-intensity exercise right away. Work your way up to it, otherwise you could become seriously injured. Eventually, you’ll be able to resume your full exercise regime.

Don’t Resist Resistance

A week after your liposuction procedure you can start resistance training. If you don’t have access to weights, use soup cans. As with any exercise following surgery, take it slow. Don’t try to do 20 reps right away. Try five reps and take a break. Although it may not seem like five pushups or arm curls are a lot, remember that you’ve just had surgery and there’s no need to overdo it.

Maintain To Avoid The Gain

Although liposuction is perfect for removing fat cells, it is not a weight loss solution. You can still gain weight in the years following liposuction if you are not careful. To maintain your new figure after your liposuction procedure it’s important to keep up a solid exercise regime. You should also eat a balanced diet and avoid fatty, sugary, processed foods. Without a proper exercise routine and healthy diet, people who have undergone liposuction cannot maintain long-term results.

Check with your surgeon before attempting any physical activity in the weeks following your surgery. You need to give your body ample time to heal before hitting the gym.
