Can you get Areola Reduction Surgery?

Can you get Areola Reduction Surgery?

Being comfortable in your own skin is worth more than its weight in gold. Or your body’s weight in gold, for that matter.

Areola Reduction Surgery

There’s nothing more important than being happy with your body, and if that means making a few simple adjustments, then it can easily be done.

The areola, the dark coloured part of your breast that surrounds the nipple, comes in all shapes and sizes, and some are just more aesthetically pleasing than others.

Areola surgery is available, but there a few things you should to know before going under the knife.

First of all, the size and shape of your areola is usually genetic. If you mother or grandmother has a wide, thick, or dark areola, chances are you will, too.

Secondly, weight gain and loss (such as that which occurs during pregnancy) changes the size of your breasts and can stretch out the skin around your nipple, drawing out the areola in any direction. You should wait until your weight has stabilized before getting surgery because if your body is going to continue going through many changes, you run the risk of stretching your breasts again and perhaps creating need for another surgery.

Normally after a large shift in weight the breasts will slightly sag. The best thing to do in this situation is have a combination breast lift and areola reduction surgery to bring your breasts back to a more pleasing appearance.

Be wary of operating on the skin around the nipple because it’s both thin and sensitive. There’s a chance that you will end up with a small amount of scarring, but a good surgeon will make the circular incision hardly noticeable.

You don’t need to worry about losing sensitivity in your nipples because the surgery is focused on tightening the skin surrounding the nipple, not cutting into the nerves that deliver sensations from the nipples to the brain.

As far as breast feeding is concerned, that’s another area you can put your mind at ease over. The reason doctors suggest waiting until after you have children to get the surgery is not related to breast milk production, but instead is related to breast enlargement and skin stretching.

If you are interested in changing the shape and size of your areola, schedule a consultation with a cosmetic surgeon and get started on a more confident path in life!
