The Best Age to Get a Rhinoplasty

The Best Age to Get a Rhinoplasty

If you think you haven’t heard of rhinoplasty before, chances are you probably have. It is commonly referred to as a nose job and is a surgical procedure performed to alter the nose’s appearance or better its overall function.

Rhinoplasties can be done for purely medical reasons, including damage due to accidents, defects from birth or breathing problems relating to the nasal passage. However, many people sign themselves up for a nose job to change how their nose looks — perhaps they don’t like the bump on the bridge, or maybe their tip is too droopy or too pointed than they would like — trust us, individuals have many aesthetic reasons for undergoing rhinoplasty in Mississauga.

How the Procedure Goes

The procedure itself is a safe one — a lovely little upside to what could seem a somewhat painful experience. However, it is, of course, important to note that there are some risks like infection, excessive bleeding or an unforeseen reaction to the anesthesia. But, stay calm, these are rare situations and, if you have a rhinoplasty in Mississauga, then you are in excellent hands.

It may come as a shock to know that the question of “what is the best age to get a rhinoplasty” is even being asked — but it really is! Why? Well, a lot of parents seem to regret not having this surgery when they were younger so have taken to asking surgeons around the globe how old their child (or children) need to be before they can have one. Of course, there is a huge debate around this subject.

The Right Age

Physically speaking, the majority of girls who are 13 years of age and boys who are 15 years of age are old enough for a nose job. It seems pretty young, doesn’t it? But note the word “physically”. What we mean is that when an individual has reached these respective ages, the nose has grown to its full, adult size and so can safely be operated on and changed.

Thankfully, emotional maturity does come into play.

Young people (as well as their families) need to think about this surgery for what it is — a better nose. Nothing more, nothing less. If you are pondering whether the right thing for your child would be to have a nose job, you must first realize that it will not make them any more popular, or necessarily stop any bullies, but, what it can do is increase their self-confidence which allows them to blossom into strong, independent, outgoing individuals.

Of course, enabling your children to come out of their shell will, without a doubt, lead to them easily making more friends and feel more able to take part in the activities they choose to do.

Recovery Times and the Process of Healing

The procedure itself is a pretty short process that will not be too hard to deal with, aside from the swelling and partial bruising that arise afterwards. Luckily, the swelling only takes about two weeks to settle however, it will take around 6 to 12 months for the nose to be in its final, fully healed and functioning state.

If you (or your child) is a student and is considering undergoing a rhinoplasty in Mississauga, aim to do this at the start of the summer holiday period as this will give them (or you) a lot of time to recover and become used to the fact that they (or yourself) have a new and improved nose.
