Reveal Younger, Rejuvenated Skin With Chemical Peels In Mississauga

McLean Clinic has a wide range of cutting edge chemical peels designed to minimize fine lines and wrinkles, smooth complexion, and even skin tone.

What Are Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels, also referred to as epidermal peels, use various ingredients to exfoliate the skin, stimulate collagen production and brighten skin tone. The most common peels use lactic acid, glycolic acid and/or salicylic acid.

At different points in our lives we all battle with skin imperfections that we wish we could get rid of. Epidermal peels are fast and easy. They treat a wide variety of skin conditions no matter what your age:

  • Improves sun damage
  • Minimizes fine lines and wrinkles
  • Evens out skin tone
  • Improves acne and rosacea
  • Smoother skin texture

Chemical peels have been used in the cosmetic industry for decades, and are a very safe, non-invasive treatment for those with aging, sun damaged, discoloured skin. They are a very simple and quick procedure completed in around 30 minutes and can provide you with great results with limited downtime.

What Areas Can Be Treated With Chemical Peels?

Chemical Peels are most commonly applied to the face and neck, however can also be used on the arms, hands, feet, chest, and back. To further enhance your results, the treatment can be used in combination with microdermabrasion and at-home medical grade skin care to further enhance results.

The chemical peel will cause the skin cells at the top layer of the skin to “unbind” and will eventually peel off a later of skin. Most patients feel a warming sensation on the treated area during the procedure, which lasts about 10 minutes, and some stinging may also occur.

How Do I Prepare For A Chemical Peel?

Epidermal peels are performed in the privacy and comfort of our Mississauga clinic. If you suffer from psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis or rosacea; are pregnant or nursing; have an infection; or have taken Accutane in the past 6 months, the appointment should be postponed for a later date. We will determine your eligibility during your consultation to determine if this is the best procedure for you.

A skin care specialist at our clinic will apply the most appropriate peeling agent for your skin and your particular needs. When the peel is being applied to your skin, you may experience some mild tingling and stinging. Minor peeling and flaking after your treatment is also to be expected and very common.

Improving your skin’s health can involve a variety of approaches. During your complimentary consultation, our Skin Care Specialist will design an individual skin rejuvenating program tailored to meet your specific needs and budget. Epidermal peels are most effective in a series of 6 treatments performed two to four weeks apart. Cost-effective packages are available. How Do Chemical Peels Work?

A chemical solution containing lactic acid, glycolic acid and/or salicylic acid will be applied to the skin, which will result in the outermost layers of your skin to peel off and provide you total skin rejuvenation by revealing the newer, younger skin cells underneath. Skin will be softer, smoother, and renewed.

The procedure should take approximately 30 minutes. You will be able to apply makeup immediately afterwards and with no down time, it is a great treatment to seek during your lunch hour.

What Results Can I Expect From A Chemical Peel?

Chemical Peels are very effective to improve the overall texture, tone, and appearance of the skin. You will see noticeable improvements in skin pigmentation such as discolouration, hyperpigmentation, sun spots, and freckles, as well as a reduced pore size and the diminished appearance of skin blemishes and breakouts. Epidermal peels will improve your skin’s texture, tone, and strengthen it by stimulating the production of collagen to provide anti-aging benefits.

To achieve the best results from epidermal peels, a series of 6 treatments 2 to 4 weeks apart is usually recommended. This will provide you with gradual, natural improvement with excellent long-term results.

Your results can be further enhanced with microdermabrasion or laser resurfacing treatments, depending on your skin condition and your needs. Our Skin Care Specialist at McLean Clinic will thoroughly evaluate your candidacy for these supplemental procedures during your consultation.

    Chemical Peel Aftercare and Recovery

Many patients do not experience any significant downtime after their chemical peel treatment and are able to apply makeup immediately. You may experience a mild stinging sensation and mild redness, as well as slight peeling and flaking, This should resolve on its own within a few days.

It is extremely important to protect your newly revealed skin from exposure to the sun immediately after your treatment. A broad spectrum sunscreen should be applied on a daily basis and tanning beds should be avoided for at least 1 month after your treatment. A caring member of the McLean Clinic team will give you all the information you need to know about follow-up care to ensure your recovery is as smooth as possible.

    Potential Complications With Chemical Peels

There are fairly low risks and complications associated with a chemical peel, however you can expect to experience redness, sensitivity, and flaking within the first few days after your treatment. A member of the McLean Clinic team will thoroughly explain the potential complications involved with a chemical peel to ensure you are properly informed before undergoing this treatment.

    Chemical Peel Myths and Facts

There’s a common myth that patients cannot wear makeup for days after their chemical peel, however this is not true! When you come to McLean Clinic for your chemical peel, you will be able to apply makeup right after your procedure and return to your regular activities right away. Some of our patients do like waiting as long as possible on their treatment day before applying makeup to allow their skin to re-adjust and calm down from the treatment. We recommend using mineral makeup as it reduces the possibility for irritation and is a great option for sensitive skin.
