Skin Tightening

Skin Tightening

What It Is

Sagging skin and the formation and lines and wrinkles are an inevitable part of the aging process. However, there are many options available to reverse signs of aging by reducing the appearance of wrinkles and by firming up sagging contours. Many of us do not want to wait until we are ready for a facelift to treat mild sagging and drooping of our skin. For others, cosmetic surgery is simply not an option. Luckily, you don’t need to go under the scalpel to achieve younger looking skin. Here at McLean Clinic, we have the ability to tighten loose, lax, sagging skin on the face or body with our large variety of non-invasive procedures to tighten and tone the skin with little to no downtime.

How It’s Treated

At McLean Clinic, we offer a wide variety of the safest and most effective non-surgical solutions to improve the effects of facial aging. During your free consultation, we will work with you to develop a custom-tailored treatment plan based on your specific needs, budget and comfort level. To achieve taut, firm skin, our comprehensive approach can include one or more of the following treatment options.

Thermage

Thermage is a non-surgical procedure that help smooth and tighten the skin of the face, neck, forehead and around the eyes, providing you with a rejuvenated, youthful appearance. It is a safe, non-invasive, and revolutionary treatment that uses controlled radiofrequency energy (RF) to stimulate new collagen production over a period of time. Collagen is the foundation that makes up the skin’s structure. With the inevitable aging process, natural collagen production decreases and can be exacerbated by exposure to UV rays emitted from the sun or fun tanning beds. As a result, you may notice looser skin and wrinkle formation.

Results of Thermage are subtle and natural. You may notice that the skin is brighter, tighter, and wrinkles and lines are smoothed out. Scars are minimized and the texture of the skin will also improve. It can be used as a non-surgical brow lift or as a way to tighten the facial muscles non-surgically. Thermage is commonly used to treat loose skin on the face, arms, abdomen, and thighs. With little to no downtime, you can quickly return to work and your normal activities. The effects continue to improve for up to six months and can last for years.

Skin Resurfacing

Skin Resurfacing treatments such as Microdermabrasion, Epidermal Peels and ProFractional can be used to treat mild skin laxity as well as fine lines and wrinkles. These techniques peel off the top layers of the skin (epidermis) and promote collagen production. ProFractional in particular emits a tiny laser beam that treats thousands of pinpoint areas of your skin. Downtime is minimal and the result is firmer, plumper skin with fewer lines and wrinkles.

These skin resurfacing treatments work to reveal the fresh, younger layers of skin underneath the surface of dead skin cells and clogged pores. This will minimize texture on the skin, providing you with a softer, radiant, and more youthful facial complexion.

When performed by a trained skin care professional, skin resurfacing treatments are safe, although there is a small risk of scarring, swelling, redness, and discolouration of the skin. Many of our patients experience little to no downtime and are able to return to work and resume their normal activities almost immediately, although this does vary from patient to patient. To ensure you are protecting the new, exposed layers of skin, we recommend the daily application of a broad spectrum sunscreen to the face and to any treated areas to protect the skin from the potentially damaging UV rays from the sun.

Broad Band Light/Photorejuvenation

As we age, we lose collagen and elasticity in our skin and fine lines and wrinkles begin to appear. The heat and light from Broad Band Light/Photorejuvenation stimulates skin cells in order to produce new collagen to reduce the appearance of sun spots, uneven skin tone, and sun damage. It is non-invasive and is a gentle procedure with virtually no downtime. The result is a firmer, more even complexion.

The inevitable aging process means that skin’s production of collagen and the elasticity of our skin declines. This leads to the formation of lines and wrinkles on the skin and contributes to the appearance of a sagging complexion. The light and heat emitted by the laser beams work to stimulate the production of collagen in the skin cells to result in a firmer complexion. The laser also has the unique ability to be customized to your individual skin care needs and desired results. The McLean skin care specialists will be able to choose the appropriate wavelength to target signs of aging and treat sun damage for your particular skin and its needs.

The results of the treatment will provide you with fresh, radiant, rejuvenated skin. You’ll notice a reduction in the depth of fine lines and wrinkles, your skin will feel smoother and softer, and look firmer and youthful. When photorejuvenation is performed by a trained skin care professional like our staff at McLean Clinic, the procedure is safe and effective for producing desirable results.

Many of our patients report experiencing little to no discomfort, although this can vary depending on the depth of the treatment you opt for. In some cases, you may experience mild redness, swelling, and bruising but this normally resolves on their own within a few days or weeks. Patients generally get the best results after completing a series of 3 to 5 treatments, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, however a skin care specialist at McLean Clinic will discuss your unique needs and recommend a treatment schedule that works best for your skin type and desired results.
